About Me
Hi There. I’m Betsy. I’m passionate about cultural heritage, and all of the pieces that make that puzzle come together.
I hold degrees in Art History, Anthropology, and Historic Preservation. I started my career as an architectural historian in the museum setting. Today, I combine heritage interpretation and technical historic preservation assistance in my primary role as Director of Heritage programming at the Wheeling National Heritage Area.
In my spare time, I try to walk the walk. I left museums because I didn’t want to be a theoretical heritage professional, I wanted to live it. I purchased my own historic home in 2020, which is how most of you probably found your way here. My “Cheap Old House” resonated with more people than I ever could have imagined, so this is also where I chronicle the rehabilitation of that beautiful old mess, as well as a few other projects on the side.
My mission is to help people live a local, authentic lifestyle that honors our shared heritage, and fosters healthy, equitable community development.
Part Blog, part portfolio, part Marshall fan site, I’m here to help- whether that’s reading about my trials and tribulations at my own house, or providing consulting services for your home or community needs. All are welcome here.
